The Overstrand Municipality would like to bring to the attention of residents that, due to the summer holiday period over December and the Municipality reopening on 5 January 2026, there were delays in the reading of water and electricity meters. As a result, some accounts may reflect consumption over a longer period than usual.
For example, instead of the standard 31-day period, some accounts may reflect a period of 41 days, which could lead to higher-than-usual consumption charges for the affected billing cycle.
The Municipality assures residents that a formula is used to fairly calculate water and electricity usage over these extended periods, ensuring no one is unfairly penalised. In cases of longer periods, residents are not charged differently under the sliding tariff scales; the total amount is calculated based on the correct number of days and levied in the following billing cycle.
Citizen app
Residents are encouraged to submit their own water and electricity meter readings via the Collab Citizen app to help ensure accurate and timely billing. For the best results, please submit your readings on the same day each month.
When submitting, ensure you include the following:
- Your account or erf number
- A clear photo of the meter reading
- This will help the Municipality maintain accurate records and prevent delays in future billing cycles
